Rally Against Gun Violence!! Pt. 1

On Tuesday February 12th Friends of Island Academy joined Street Corner Resources, Harlem Mothers Save, Harlem Renaissance High School, Perfect Peace Ministries, Circle of Brothers, F.A.I.T.H and other anti-violence groups for rally against gun violence. We took a 2 and a half hour trip to Albany to go inside the capital building were many of the youth and adults were supporting the cause. There were many speakers inside the capital building, especially moms expressing there thoughts and experiences about the movement taking place. Governor Cuomo past laws in the N.Y. Safe act. The laws fortify New York's existing assault weapons ban, limit the number of bullets allowed in magazines and strengthens rules that govern the mentally ill, which includes a requirement to report potential harmful behavior. The first term Democratic Governor had called for a tightening of the assault weapons ban, back round checks for people who purchase guns privately. The N.R.A. ( National Rifle Association ) accused Cuomo of orchestrating "a secretive end-run around the legislative and democratic process. The N.R.A. were also rallying on the outside premises of the capital building. I am not against people having guns but only against those individuals who are dangerous should not own one. We can look at the past year and recall many of the shootings that occurred where not only adults were killed but innocent children who lives were taken because of the lack of gun control. I am proud to say i was involved in the rally because only the unity of people have the power to create a change and if do not strive to do so then we cannot expect something to be done.
